This is a watercolour painting, in the style popularised by Andy Warhol, taken from a photograph of  Joyce, aged 22, in 1904, in C P Curran's garden.

Asked what he was thinking when C P Curran photographed him, Joyce replied, "I was wondering would he would lend me five shillings".

This original painting is based on that photograph.

This is a watercolour painting, in the style popularised by Andy Warhol, taken from a photograph of James Joyce (1882-1941) in Paris in 1920 at the door of the famous bookshop, Shakespeare and Co. owned by Joyce's friend, the American, Sylvia Beach.  She was a patron and first publisher of  Ulysses.  At this time, while constantly short of funds, he had started to dress in a dandified fashion.

This original painting is based on that photograph.
